The Licence Controller Qualification (LCQ) for Managers
EXPLAINING THE LICENCE CONTROLLER QUALIFICATION (LCQ) for holders of Manager’s Certificates.
(Read first – then the different course options are below on this page).
Required training for NEW MANAGERS and those aspiring to get in to the industry.
NB – The Licence Controllers Qualification is required for holders of GENERAL Managers Certificates, not CLUB Managers.
CLUB Managers just have to complete an approved course – of which our two units are still recommended.
Club Managers still must have the units registered and can choose to obtain the LCQ certificate if they wish (as they sit through the same course).
Please be aware that pending changes may do away with Club managers certificates – making the LCQ compulsory for all.

SO HOW DOES THIS WORK WITH MY MANAGER’S CERTIFICATE? – AND HOW DO I GET THE LCQ?
Section 115 of the Sale of Liquor Act requires a manager to be on duty whenever liquor is sold to the public. This person requires a Manager’s Certificate.
Appropriate training is a pre-requisite, (as well as some other criteria under Section 121), before a Manager’s Certificate can be applied for.
Both section 121 and 117A state all holders of GENERAL Managers certificates will require the LICENCE CONTROLLER QUALIFICATION (LCQ).
This course consists of NZQA Units 4646 – Demonstrate Knowledge of the Sale of Liquor Act, and 16705 – Demonstrate Knowledge of Host Responsibility - which are required for the LCQ.

Each ‘Classroom’ course is either a day or two evenings with a closed book assessment at the completion (That may be a later date – but check enrolment form or website enrolments).
There is also set home-study which gives time to study and absorb, but if you register early there is plenty of time to absorb and understand.

For those who need more time this can be arranged to suit. The first ”resit” option is free. Well actually it is not a resit – its just an oportunity to ”finish it off” if you didnt get eveything at the first attempt.
Be sure to complete the NZQA process at the course.
This suits those who need inteactive learning and the inexperienced person. You are restricted to a time frame which can avoid dragging things out but you do need to absorb a lot in a short, set time.
IF YOU ENROL EARLY BOOKS ARE SENT IN ADVANCE GIVING MORE TIME TO STUDY AND ABSORB THE INFORMATION.

B) Self-Paced study (Correspondence) – by mail.
Correspondence courses can be completed nationally.
Enrol and all books are sent to you to study at your own pace. Return the ”homework” for assessment and when this is returned to you we set down the final face-to-face closed book assessment at a venue near you – nearly 60 towns to choose from (see enrolment form for details).
So this does require attendance at a revision and assessment session.
Note; there are two fees – enrolment with all the NZQA and LCQ fees – then $40 is payable to the assessor at the final assessment ($35 for HANZ memebers).
This suits those wanting to do this very quickly but it can also be dragged out. Best for the studious and motivated experienced person.
B) Self-Paced study (OnLine) – all on your PC.
OnLine courses can be completed nationally.

Similar to Correspondence but no paper and very interactive and thorough.
Enrol and when payment is activated you are away and you to study at your own pace. Submit the ”homework” for assessment and when this marked we set down the final face-to-face closed book assessment at a venue near you – nearly 60 towns to choose from (see website for details).
